If you want to actively work with your student leaders on examining your activity programs and processes with an equity-lens, this session is for you! As educators, we hold the belief that all students can and should be able to participate in student leadership and activities, but then find that our demographic data of who is involved and who attends events is not proportional to our school population data. Why not? Are we striving for equality (all students get same thing) or equity (all students get what they need to succeed)? How can we use our role in the institution (our school) to push for equity? How can we inspire our student leaders to begin to view their work with an equity-lens and engage everyone? You will leave with several lesson plans, tools, and practices you can begin to implement immediately back at school!
